Born in Pimlico, London. Died in Streatham, London and buried in Norwood Cemetery, Norwood Road, Lambeth on 21 February 1912.
Amongst the commissions undertaken by Mabey were work on Todmorden Town Hall (1870); the Temple Bar Memorial (1879-80); and creating full-sized models for the terra cotta enrichments on the facade of Hill's Bakery, London c.1887 which were moulded by J. C. Edwards (figure sculpture by Harry Bates). (See Beattie, 1983)
Beattie quotes an advertisement for Mabey's business, inviting: 'architects and others to [view] an extensive stock of new designs for buildings in all styles...Figure and architectural modelling and carving...ceiling flowers, cornice enrichment, capitals, trusses, enriched panels, chimneypieces, etc. Reredos, pulpits, fonts, tombs, monuments...' (Beattie, 1983, pp. 51-2)
