Gottardo Induni
Born 1862 (Circa)
Died 8 November 1918
Active: 1891 - 1911
Country of birth and death: Switzerland
Sculptor, marble carver, pointer
Born in Switzerland. In 1887 he married Josephine Castioni (born c.1863 in Switzerland), daughter of Angelo Castioni (born c.1834-6 in Switzerland), sculptor. From then until c.1907 he lived and worked from 1 Upper Cheyne Row, at the same business address as his father-in-law. His sons Peter (c.1883-1943) and Joseph (c.1893-1956) were both sculptors and marble carvers (although there is little evidence about the latter's activities). Around 1911, Gottardo and Peter were lodging with Frank Morton Crookes (born c.1880), an ecclesiastical art metalworker. The Indunis are credited with having carved a great deal of the work shown annually at the Royal Academy (see, for example, County Hall (1991), pp. 57-69). Gottardo died in Ligornetto Canton, Switzerland.
Wealth at death: £433 5s. 6d.
Probate date: 24 January 1919
