Sculptor
Born at Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, Brussels. Studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux-arts in Brussels between 1859-68. Over the next sixteen years he travelled abroad, visiting Paris, Florence and Rome. From 1893-98 he collaborated with Constantin Meunier to plan a series of fifty-two sculptures for the exterior of the botanical garden in Brussels. The sculptures were executed by a number of different artists and represented the seasons, weather, animals and plants. In the 1890s he was appointed director of the art school at Académie des Beaux-arts, Brussels. He died in his native city in 1910.
