Sculptor
Born in Ålesund. Tonnesen studied art at evening classes in Bergen and then in Berlin (1884) and Paris (from 1885). She lived in France for over twenty years and became friends with Auguste Rodin, Alexandre Falguière and Antonin Merci. After returning to her native Norway in 1910, Tonnesen completed some seventy works including portrait busts, ecclesiastical works and statuary.
