Sculptor
Born and raised in Buenos Aires. He began studying art locally (1899) and then in Paris (c.1900-04). Thereafter he was primarily based in Buenos Aires although he spent about five years living in Barcelona, Spain (c.1911-16). Yrurtia completed numerous prestigious commissions in Argentina, also exhibiting both at home and abroad throughout his career. He was a founder member of the National Academy of Fine Arts (1938). Yrurtia died at his home in the Belgrano section of Buenos Aires. He bequeathed his house and works as a museum.
