Sculptor, painter
Born and raised in London, he moved to Brussels in 1875. Lalaing studied under Jean-François Portaels and Louis Gallait at the Académie des Beaux-arts, Brussels. He began exhibiting in 1882 and became known primarily as a sculptor of animal subjects. Lalaing joined the Académie Royale des Beaux-arts, Brussels in 1896 and was its director between 1904-13. He executed a number of important public monuments and statues in Brussels and other Belgian cities. Sources state Lalaing died in Brussels in 1917. However in 1918 a London address is given for him by the Royal Scottish Academy, this is presumably an error.
