Born in London, Middlesex and died in Bath, Somerset. He was the third generation of a large family of sculptors. Lucius Junior's father was Lucius Gahagan Senior (1773-1855), who was the second son of the sculptor Lawrence Gahagan (c.1735-1820). Lucius Junior's uncles were the sculptors Vincent (1776-1832) and Sebastian Gahagan (1779-1838). Lucius Junior's sister, Sarah was an artist and modeller.
