Mr Robert Morton Nance
Born 1873
Died 1949
Active: 1890 - 1910
Metal worker, sculptor, painter
Born in Cardiff to Cornish parents (birth registered between May-June). He was studying art c.1891 and exhibited paintings at the Royal Academy in 1895. After the death of Beatrice in 1901, he married Maud Morton Nance, a handloom weaver (born in Swansea, Glamorgan c.1872). In 1906 he moved to Cornwall with Maud and became an authority on all things Cornish. Founded the Old Cornwall Society. It is probable that Jeniver A.M. Nance (daughter with his first wife, Beatrice, and born c.1897 in St Ives, Cornwall) is the Armoral M. Nance who exhibited a sculpture at the RA in 1924 and lived at Carbis bay, Cornwall.
