Carver, gilder
Born in Suffolk. Her first husband was Samuel Barnfield Bartington (c.1783-1838 or 1845), a cabinet maker. Mahala had two children with Samuel Elizabeth (born c.1825) and Benjamin Barnfield Bartington (born c.1828). In 1838 she may have married Henry Hale or Hall, son of James who were both painters. Henry was living at 11 Museum Street at the time of their marriage. The marriage banns say her father was Samuel Bartington and that he was a picture dealer. At some point before 1848 she set up business as a carver and gilder at 58 Wardour Street and remained in business until close to her death. The residuary legatee was Benjamin Bartington who was described as a Carver and Gilder in the Probate Calendar and working from the premises in Wardour Street.
Wealth at death: £200 0s. 0d.
