Born in Saint Clement Danes, Westminster, London. He was the son of John Robert Philip Jaquet (born c.1819 in Epsom, Surrey), a tavern keeper of Johnson's Tavern, Clare Court, Drury Lane. John and his brothers attended a boarding school in Bradford Street, Bocking, Essex. He died at Station Street, Newton, New South Wales.
