Stonemason
Born in Pembroke. He was a member of a large, well-established family of stonemasons who had been active in Pembroke since the early nineteenth century. William Colley Junior was the son of Thomas Colley (c.1820-1896), stonemason and his grandfather was John Colley (c.1788-1865) who was the first of the family to come to Pembroke (from Yorkshire). William Colley Junior established a base for the family's monumental masonry business in Twopenny Hay. This seems to have specialised in marble or funerary work, it was turned into a much larger builder's merchant and quarry business by his son Thomas William Colley (1868-1948).
There is information about the family and the business on the Pembroke Story website submitted by the late Joyce Colley: http://www.pembrokestory.org.uk/ColleyFamily.html (accessed 8 June 2012)
Wealth at death: £150 8s. 11d.
