Sculptor, architectural carver
Born Warsaw, Poland. He was the son of Ozias Geflowski, a clerk. His brother was the sculptor Emanuel Edward Geflowski (see separate entry). In 1860 Maurice was married in West Derby, Liverpool, Lancashire. It is not known how long the marriage lasted, he was a widower by 1891 but is not recorded in any of the census returns as resident with his wife.
Around 1869 Maurice was living and working in Batignolles, Paris and described himself as an architectural and general sculptor. That year he submitted a communication to the London Gazette on behalf of Henri Adrien Bonneville for the invention of "a new and improved billiard and bagatelle room convenience." In 1872 Maurice completed some carving on the elaborate reredos for St. Laurence, Stroud (architect George Gilbert Scott) for which his brother Emanuel, did the figure carving. Between about 1871 and 1891 Maurice worked in Shrewsbury. At his death in that city in 1911, Maurice left a small legacy of £20 each to his nieces, Marie and Amy.
Wealth at death: £142 12s. 2d.
