Born in London. He was the oldest son of Adolphe Joseph Boucneau (1820-86) who came from a family of stonecutters in Rance, Hainaut province, Belgium. His father established a successful firm of marble merchants in Warren Street and sometime before 1881 Adolphe Joseph Henry joined his father in the business. A brother, Victor Emmanuel (1863-1934) became a sculptor and exhibited at the Royal Academy and Liverpool Autumn Exhibition. At his father's death in 1886, Adolphe Joseph Henry was granted probate and continued to run the family business into the 1890s. He died in 1899 in Witney, Oxfordshire.
