Probably born in France (although Gentili (2003) suggests Belgium). Lived in Italy around 1900-04, and was then naturalized as a British citizen in 1905. Whilst in Italy, his circle included the journalist, critic and poet Giovanni Papini (1881-1956) of whom Du Chêne de Vère sculpted a portrait head (now lost). He lived in London between c.1905-14 and exhibited with the International Society of Sculptors, Painters and Gravers. Among his friends was the painter and sculptor, Glyn Philpot. In 1919, Du Chêne de Vère arrived at Ellis Island from from the Bahamas and settled in the United States. He is buried at Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery, Cismont, Albemarle County, Virginia.

Personal and Professional Connections
Friends with Glyn Warren Philpot
1906 (Circa)
Philpot found Du Chêne de Vère's philosophy of life 'most inspiring' and 'catching', particularly the 'importance of always passing on to new impressions, and the importance of never looking back in regret on anything [underlined] in the past, but realising that progression and development are really everything that is important...' [quoted in J.G.P. Delaney, (1999) p.12]
