Stone carver, architectural sculptor
Born in Westminster, London. He was the third of four generations of stone masons and architectural sculptors who operated a business from near Vincent Square in London. His grandfather, John Daymond I started the firm c.1841 and it was continued by his father John Daymond II (c.1821-1898). John Daymond III was apprenticed as a stone carver by the age of 14 and took over the family business in the 1890s. Details of some of the architects and architectural carvings associated with the family are given in the record for John Daymond II. Daymond III had a son, John Dudley Daymond (1879-1954) who also became an architectural sculptor and took over the management of the firm before 1935.
