Born in London. He worked as a cabinet maker, wood carver and later a pattern designer. His son, Thomas (born c.1838 in Birmingham, Warwickshire) worked in wood and was presumably trained by his father. However, Thomas Dewson Junior diversified his practice, also modelling and designing furniture. In 1871, Thomas Senior was married to Annie (born c.1844 in London) who was a wood carver. He may have died between October and December 1874 in Birmingham.
