Designer, wood carver, mould maker, modeller, author
Born in Birmingham, Warwickshire. He was the son of Thomas Dewson Senior (born c.1816 in London), cabinet maker and wood carver. It is probable that Thomas Dewson Junior received some of his training from his father. In 1867 Dewson Junior published privately a manual on modelling: 'The art of ornamental and figure Modelling in clay, wax etc. Containing the principles and practice of Modelling, for the use of beginners and artists, in twenty easy lessons, etc.' (Birmingham, 1867). Before 1871, Dewson Junior had relocated to Chorlton in Manchester where he worked until his death in 1884. In 1871 he was a designer of artistic furniture, at the time of his death he was described more generally as a designer. One of his last acts was to show seven large items of furniture in the Education section of the 'International Health Exhibition' of 1884 (exhibit nos 811-817, section VIII, Furniture and Wood Carving, p. 34). The catalogue note said that the furniture was Dewson's design, and had been manufactured by E. Goodall & Co., Manchester.
Wealth at death: £3,039 19s. 6d.
