Sculptor, teacher
Born Wealdstone, Middlesex. Worked in commercial art and as a tin-miner and fisherman while pursuing painting. From 1930, studied art at evening classes in Swansea, moved to St. Ives 1938. Assistant to Hepworth in St Ives from 1948. Founder member of Pebwith Society of Arts and Chairman 1955-57. Made first bronze sculptures 1959. Taught at Redruth School of Art 1960-67. First solo show in 1960s.
Commissions include; Piran for Teacher Training College, Clapham Common, London 1959.
Collections include: Tate Gallery; Arts Council; The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge; Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; National Gallery of New South Wales.
Exhibitions include: AIA Gallery, London 1957 (solo); Drian Galleries, London 1958; Waddington Galleries, London 1961 (solo); Sculptors Today, Midland Group Gallery, Nottingham 1962.
