Country of death: United Kingdom
Sculptor, modeller
Born in Tromborn, Moselle, France. Kremer came to England on 25 September 1859. As his first recorded activity is in Penkhull, Stoke-on-Trent it is likely he came to Britain to work as a modeller for one of the potteries, possibly for Spode. By 1871 Kremer was living in the St. Pancras area of London with his family. From the evidence of the age and birthplace of his offspring (6 children ranging from 5 to 15 all born in France) he returned home to be with his wife and family during the years he was working in England. Kremer died of heart disease at the address in Stanhope Street, London. He had been suffering from this condition for the previous year, which may have effected his ability to work.
This record includes information from the legal documents relating to Kremer's death submitted to the project by Wasilou Dahamano. There is an entry for Kremer in the the Musée d'Orsay database of artists: http://www.musee-orsay.fr/en/espace-professionnels/professionals/researchers/rech-rec-art-home/notice-artiste.html?no_cache=1&zsz=5&lnum=2 (accessed 1 February 2012). The project would like to thank Anne Bellamy for identifying Tromborn as Kremer's birthplace.
