Roger Hedley
Active: 1890 - 1951
Function: Carvers and/or gilders, turners and/or carvers, wood turners and/or carvers, marble masons, sculptors, carvers in wood and stone, monumental sculptors, wood carvers
History or description: A multi-generational firm of wood carvers and architectural sculptors and craftsmen founded by Ralph Hedley (1849-1913) and continued by his son Roger (1879-1970). It is probable that Ralph retired in the 1890s or early 1900s because the business was trading under Roger's name from this period. However the exact date and details of this transition are uncertain. There is also some uncertainty about the date at which the business was in turn transferred to Ralph Hedley who is presumed to be the son (or other relative) of Roger. However the transition probably occurred between 1940-50.

Forerunner of Ralph Hedley (Craftsmen) Ltd.
The exact date of the change is uncertain but probably took place between 1940-50
Successor to Ralph Hedley
Roger (1879-1970) was the son of Ralph (1849-1913), the date at which the firm transferred from father to son is uncertain. Based on information from Newcastle-upon-Tyne trade directories the date would seem to have been in the 1890s, however this was when Roger was still very young.
