Policy: "This Society, of which the First Spring Exhibition is now opened, has been formed for the promotion of a taste for the Fine Arts among the inhabitants of this district, and as a means of giving encouragement to Artists by affording opportunities for the exhibition and sale of their works. By the rules of the Society, it is expressly provided that no profit or advantage shall accrue personally to any member thereof in connection with the undertaking...It is intended to have two Exhibitions annually, one in the Spring, which may vary in character from year to year; the other in the Autumn, which will consist entirely of the works of Living Artists, for the most part sent by them for sale".
