History or description: A successful business run by three generations of the same family: James Mabey (1812-83), Charles Henry Mabey (1836-1912) and Charles Henry Mabey Junior (born 1867). There is more detail in the personal records for the members of the business.
The firm was described in Forrer, vol. 3, (1907), p. 521, as C. H. and J. Mabbey (sic), 'engravers of medals executed by Foot and Tebay, on the Removal of Temple Bar, 1878'.

Foot and Tobay are listed in Forrer, vol. 2, (1904), p. 122, as 'editing' a 'medal on the removal of Temple Bar, 1878; it was struck in lead taken from the roof, and engraved by C. H. and J. Mabb, sculptors' [summary]. Note that in Forrer, vol. 3, (1907), p. 521, the same relationship is described between the firms 'C. H. and J. Mabey' and 'Foot and Tebay' [sic].
