History or description: A firm established by William John Rainey (c.1840-22 June 1919, born and died in Belfast). Earliest known premises were at 6 Dayton Street, Belfast in 1877, by 1880 Rainey had established the business at 30 King Street. Note: there were two firms of engravers and die sinkers run by W.J. Rainey in this period - William James and William John. There was also another business owned by Samuel Rainey. It is possible that they were related.
