Smyth, John and Sons
First name: John
Active: 1926 -
Function: Art metal work, ecclesiastical art manufactory for church plate and brass work.
Policy: 'Mr. P. Shortall [builder] has now completed the new factory premises for Messrs John Smyth & Son in Wicklow Lane...from designs prepared by Mr. J. Roseman Byrne, C.E., Serpentine Ave.
The new building is two storeys high, well lighted and ventilated, and provides a floor area of about 5,000 square feet. The various grinding, polishing and other machines are now fixed and at work. Messrs. Smyth have an old-established reputation for ecclesiastical art metal work, including chalices, sanctuary lamps, monstrances, etc., and it is interesting to notice that another important branch of their business is the manufacture of silver ware, such as trays, cups, etc. , also the reproduction of old designs and patterns. In the latter connection, they have turned out some very fine specimens of filigree and other work'.
