History or description: A successful firm of plaster cast figure makers, manufacturers of fictile ivories and of electrotypes established by Giovanni Ferdinand Franchi (c.1812-74 born in Italy, died in London). His son, Giovanni Antonio (Ferdinand) Franchi (c.1832-70 born and died in London) was also involved with the firm from about 1851. On the death of Giovanni Ferdinand in 1874 the firm was acquired by Elkington & Co and the workshop was managed by his nephew Alexander Edward Sarti (1850-99).
