History or description: Sydney Edwin Smith was born in Westminster, London in 1843. He established a business in Bristol before 1871. Several of his children also became stone masons, including George Sidney Smith (born c.1972 in Bedminster) and Edwin Thomas Smith (born c.1878 in Bedminster). It is not yet known when Sydney Smith died nor whether George as well as Edwin continued to work for the firm.
