History or description: The business was started by Barnabas Thomas Barrett who was working as a modeller in London between 1841-55. He moved to Norwich in 1855 to work on the new Public Library. (Details of his later commissions and works are given on personal entry for Barrett). He had a son Thomas J. Barrett, who was born c.1853 in Wareham, Dorset and who seems to have continued the family business.
