Created by G. Fiaschi
Object class: sculpture
Object type: bust
Description: 'This may be the same bust now in Buxton Town Hall, inscribed on the plinth 'Lord Frederick Cavendish. Presented by Cavaliere Froehlich, Italian Consul, Manchester, 26 June 1889' (this was the day of the opening of the Town Hall). Froehlich, visiting Buxton shortly before, heard of the new hall and offered the Chairman of Buxton Local Board the bust and a marble plinth as an appreciation of the town and in honour of the Cavendishes. (See Glossop-dale Chronicle, No. 1512 (29 June 1889), p. 7.) Buxton Town Hall also has a clock tower in memory of the late Frederick Cavendish, who was assassinated at Dublin in 1882.'
