Description: 'Made for a Convent near Dublin. Weighed nearly 300 ounces, 18-carat gold, and was set with diamonds, amethysts, topaz and garnets. The repousse work represented scenes from the Passion of the Saviour. It is one of the finest pieces of gold work we have seen produced. Made by Messrs John Smyth and Sons, of 17 Wicklow Street, entirely in their own workshops, and is a testimony to the excellence of Dublin goldsmiths' work'.
As described in The Irish Builder, Oct. 10th, 1901, p. 889.
