Description: The obverse of this medal represents King John enthroned giving a charter to a kneeling man; above in clouds the seal of the Corporation of Liverpool, behind the kneeling man the arms and crest of the city. There are two dolphins in exergue. The reverse shows a ship in full sail.

Notes: Charles John Allen donated the design for this medal which celebrates the 700th Anniversary of the foundation of Liverpool to the city. Casts were sold as souvenirs to cover the costs of the anniversary celebrations. There were three sizes available, priced between one and five shillings.
