Leeds City Art Gallery, Yorkshire Artists' Exhibition, 1949
Start Date: 24 September 1949
End Date: 6 November 1949
Type: Annual exhibition
Policy: 'After a lapse of ten years it has now become possible to revive the Yorkshire Artists' Exhibition. Owing to the national situation it was discontinued after 1939. Prior to this the exhibition provided an opportunity for artists connected with the county to show their work and to offer it for sale. The Art Gallery committee is desirous that it shall again become a shop window for artists, as well as an opportunity for the public to see the work of native painters and sculptors.'
Although originally an annual exhibition, it was decided some years before the war that it should be held every two years. This practice will be continued for the time being and the next exhibition will take place in 1951 [...]'
