Description: An exhibition of illustrative examples, chronologically arranged from prehistoric times to contemporary, describing the branches of the arts and manufacturing overseen by the Leeds Mechanics' Institution and Literary Society and Schools of Science and Art. Exhibits were organised by the Fine Art Department, the Science Department, the Machinery Department, the Manufactures Department and the Sanitary Department.
Display Arrangement: The main Fine Art Department exhibition was in the North Gallery of the Cloth Hall, to the rear of the Mechanics' Institution. Objects listed from the catalogue with the F suffix refer to this building. Those with the G suffix were displayed at Farnley H
