End Date: 1946
Type: Competition
Description: The RSA's annual competition that had been held between 1924 and 1934, was revised in 1938. The awards would be given in the form of scholarships and travelling studentships. In 1938 and 1939, one of each of these types of award (to the value of £100) was offered in three groups - furnishing textiles, dress textiles and pottery. In 1940 the prizes were reduced, and they were suspended in 1941 owing to the war. They were re-introduced in 1946. In 1948 the competition was extended and eleven bursaries were offered to the value of £1,400 (see Hudson and Luckhurst, 'The Royal Society of Arts', 1954, p. 288).
