Policy: A sum of £3,675 was 'bequeathed by the Will of the late John Charles Lewis Sparkes, deceased, who died on the 12th day of December, 1907, is held in trust by the President of the Council, and called the "Trust of Catherine Adeline Sparkes," and the income is to be applied in such a manner as they shall think fit for the benefit of the female students of the Royal Academy so long as they are admitted thereto, but in the event of female students ceasing to be admitted, the income is to be applied at the discretion of the President and Council towards the support and encouragement of female art students or female painters either in the purchase from them of paintings, or other works of art, or by way of small pensions, gifts or otherwise, to such females as may be in poverty and distress, and who are not under fifty-five years of age'.
