Description: Various prizes were awarded to students each year. From 1872-1873 to 1879-1880 prizes were only awarded for drawing and painting. The first prize for modelling/sculpture was awarded in 1883-1884.
In 1883-1884 nine female students were awarded prizes for modelling and two male. Prizes were then awarded in the following years, 1889-1890 to 1891-1892, 1894-1895 to 1898-1899.
In 1888-1889 an award was also given for designs for the 'Slade medal'.
Numerous prizes were still being offered to students by the school in 1951-1952, the last year sampled for this database.
Policy: The majority of the prizes were open to men and women.
