The Artist-Craftmen's Group First Exhibition (Ruskin Galleries), 1925
End Date: March 1925
Type: Exhibition
Description: Exhibition included wood and linoleum cuts, etchings, theatrical designs, watercolours, oil paintings, sculpture, metal work and jewellery, books and furniture etc. [summary].
Policy: The catalogue foreword by Bache Matthews describes the purpose of the exhibition as follows:
'Recently Birmingham has been severely criticised for its lack of interest in modern art. Perhaps Birmingham is not really less appreciative than other cities, but, for various reasons, has had fewer opportunities of examining and studying examples of the work of the younger artists. The collection now exhibited affords such an opportunity, and it is hard to believe that it will be neglected'.
