Description: The classes included instruction in 'study of life (male, female and bust), animals, birds, carving in the round and relief and their application in design for all materials and methods of production.'
Demonstrations were held in 'the different methods employed in casting: plaster, waste and piece moulding, wax and gelatine moulding for bronze casting' [summary] ('Classes for Modellers, Carvers, Letter Cutters, Plaster Workers and Others', 19 September 1921).
Policy: The classes were described as follows: 'Courses are arranged for all those whose crafts and trades rely in any way on a knowledge of form; such as sculptors, medallists, carvers, modellers for cast medal, brassworkers, chasers, repoussé, plaster, cement and terra-cotta workers, model and pattern makers, monumental masons and letter cutters, casters and designers' [summary] ('Classes for Modellers, Letter Cutters, Plaster Workers and Others', 19 September 1921).
These classes formed part of the main programme of the Central School of Art; separate programmes were produced to advertise the classes from 1921 to 1932.
In 1922 they were entitled 'Classes for Stone Carvers, Letter Cutters, Brass Workers, Modellers, Fibrous Plaster Workers and Others', and from 1923 they also included 'Ivory and Hard Wood Cutters'.
