'The subjects of the course are arranged in two divisions:-
Division I.
(i.) Drawing or Modelling from Historic Ornament
(ii.) Elementary Design
(iii.) Original Design
(iv.) History and Styles of Ornament
(v.) Figure Composition
Division II.
(vi.) Practical Handicrafts and Specialised Branches of Design.
(a) Design for Damask and Figured Textiles.
(b) Design for White Embroidery.
(c) Design for Reproduction by Lithography, by Three-Colour Process, and by Black and White Processes.
(d) Practical Embroidery.
(e) Writing, Illuminating, Lettering.
(f) Enamelling on Metal.
(g) Artistic Metal Work.
(h) Jewellers' and Silversmiths' Work.
(i) Stained and Painted Glass Work.
(j) Painters' and Decorators' Work.
(k) Lacemaking.
(l) Stone Carving.
(m) Wood Carving.
(n) Trade Modelling Class.
(o) Simple Handicrafts not requiring special accommodation or equipment' (1914-1915 Prospectus, pp. 364-65).
Policy: 'Division I. comprises general subjects bearing upon Design and Handicraft. These subjects should be followed up by all specialised designers and craftsmen alongside their practical or trade work, and pursued beyond the requirements of the Fourth Year Normal Course.
Division II. comprises various practical handicrafts or specialised branches of industrial design. Students in this division will choose one or more branches of design or craft in relation to which they desire to study'
