International Exhibition of Arts and Manufactures, Dublin, 1865
Start Date: 9 May 1865
End Date: 1865
Type: International exhibition
Description: An International Exhibition had not been held in Ireland since 1853. There was widespread interest in building an Exhibition Palace and Winter Garden, modelled after the Crystal Palace at Sydenham. Once the 17 acre site became available for development, discussions regarding another International Exhibition took place. The exhibition was opened on 9 May 1865.
Objects for exhibition divided into six classes; five containing industrial products and one consisting of 'every branch of the fine arts'.
298 sculptural works were exhibited, as featured in the catalogue (pp. 100-16).
Display Arrangement: Exhibition held at site between Hatch Street, Harcourt Street and Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin. Extensive ground plan of the exhibition halls and gardens featured in original catalogue. The majority of the sculpture was located in the Central Hall.
