Description: A. H. Smith gave lecture and showed slides. 'At the conclusion of that paper, it having previously transpired that Bro. A. H. Smith was that day (his birthday) retiring from the position of Keeper of Greek and Roman Antiquities at the British Museum, he was presented with a large birthday cake ornamented with roses and a suitable inscription. Two candelabra, especially made for the occasion, bearing in all 65 candles, were carried by the Hon. Secretaries. After appropriate speeches the interval was taken'. Post interval speakers were G. Bayes, E. A. Gardner, E. J. Sullivan and A. G. Wyon (AWG annual report, 1925, pp. 6-7).
Policy: 'Meetings are held fortnightly, when papers are read and their subjects illustrated as fully as possible. Visitors must be introduced by a member' (Year's Art, 1913, pp. 169-70).
