This was King's studio for over 40 years apart from two years during the First World War when he was in Berwick-on-Tweed (1917-18) and most of the Second World War. In 1940, 6 Wychcombe Studios was hit by a bomb. Fortunately, King was working in Oxford at the time and so the damage was only to the property and the work. He finally left the studio in 1946 according to his granddaughter, Susan Caffrey.
