John Daymond and Son

History or description: A family of stone masons and architectural sculptors active from about 1841 (or earlier) until 1935. The firm was established by John Daymond I (c.1786-c.1860) continued by his son John Daymond II (c.1821-26 February 1898) and then John Daymond III (c.1847-1934). John Dudley Daymond (1879-1954) was running the firm by 1935. It is assumed that his father, Daymond III, retired after 1911 and that John Dudley took over the management of the business. In 1922 or 1923, Daymond's became a limited company. On 8 February 1935, an Extraordinary General Meeting of Daymond & Son Ltd was held, at which it was agreed 'That the Company is unable, by reason of its liabilities, to continue business, and that it be wound up voluntarily.' (London Gazette, issue 34133, p. 1114)
