Born in Southwark, London. Son of John Roe Bramwell, cup manufacturer. Edward trained as a stone carver prior to studying at South London Technical School of Art. After completing his studies, worked as a modeller at Ruabon for the new Assize Courts in Birmingham, on the recommendation of W.S. Frith.
