Sculptor, architectural sculptor, carver
Born in Westminster, London. A successful architectural sculptor who worked for William Burges on Cardiff Castle, among other projects. Nicholls employed William Goscombe John early in the latter's career. Two of his sons became stone carvers or sculptors: Thomas O. Nicholls (born c.1863) and Edward W. Nicholls (born c.1867). The latter exhibited at the Royal Academy and was working up until 1911.
